Why did you choose LSM?
I started off as a Wharton student interested in healthcare, but when I somehow found myself in BIOL121 (BIOL1121) in a row of LSM students, I would end up taking several classes with them (i.e. ECON and MGMT) and found the interdisciplinary curriculum of the dual-degree to be very intriguing. I pursued an internal transfer from Wharton and have since found my niche.
What do you find most rewarding or enjoyable about the LSM program?
The exposure that you get from being in the program is unparalleled. Most of what you will learn in class aren’t things that you need to memorize verbatim following graduation, but it’s the environment that you are constantly immersed in that sets you up for success. Being exposed to new industries, professions, and professionals will help you sculpt what you want to pursue post-graduation, and you will have a support network throughout your entire time at Penn to help you realize your potential.
If you have completed an LSM internship, where did you work and what did your work
involve? What was the most rewarding feature of your internship?
I most recently completed a summer at Lazard in their Healthcare M&A group in New York. From covering large-pharma to earlier-stage biotech companies, I supported the team’s financial and scientific diligence to serve clients interested in any transaction ranging from the traditional M&A to licensing and asset spinoffs. The internship is exceptionally tailored to the Summer Analyst’s interests; my staffer knew I was interested in life sciences so all the clients I worked with this summer were in the biopharma industry. It’s hard to find a group that has an exceptional industry reputation alongside a stellar culture, so it was the ideal mix to forge an enjoyable summer.
What is the favorite thing you’ve done at Penn so far?
Traveling the world performing with the Glee Club. During my time at Penn we’ve performed across Europe and Latin America. My favorite performances were at the Hotel Ritz in Paris and for the community of Nancagua in the outskirts of Santiago, Chile.
Do you have plans for after graduation (tentative or otherwise)?
I will be returning to Lazard’s Healthcare M&A group as a first-year analyst following graduation.
