1) Why did you choose LSM?
I chose LSM because while I was always keen to pursue medicine, I felt that I was drawn towards the innovation and economics of healthcare. Moreover, I had always had an interest in wearable medical devices: the intersection between personal tech and medicine fascinated me. LSM’s unparalleled opportunity to explore two discrete disciplines in business and the life sciences felt like the perfect combination for me. With the supportive community, strong alumni network, and interdisciplinary approach, I knew the LSM program was the right choice.
2) What do you find most rewarding or enjoyable about the LSM program?
The people and the LSM community. From my very first day at Penn to late nights in Huntsman GSRs to LSM retreats, the community of LSM and the memories I’ve made with them have been especially rewarding. The community is so incredibly diverse and supportive that you’ll find someone who will always be there for you and motivate you to explore new interests. I’ve met some of my closest friends through the LSM Program!
3) Are you doing research currently? If so, where and on what, and what do you like about it?
I am currently doing research in the Center for Advanced Medicine at Penn Medicine under Dr. Saba Ghassemi. We are currently investigating a multidisciplinary approach that combines engineering with CAR-T cell immunology to develop potent therapeutics for adoptive immunotherapy of cancer, especially solid tumors. I’ve enjoyed being in a smaller lab that has given me the freedom to learn and develop a versatile skill set for biotechnology research. Furthermore, I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to explore and discuss new areas of research with my PI, who has been very supportive throughout my research journey.
4) What main extracurricular activities do you do at Penn?
Besides LSAB, I’m currently an Investment Associate at the Wharton Fund For Health, where I source investment opportunities and work with early-stage Philadelphia start-ups that improve the social determinants of health for economically disadvantaged Philadelphia residents. In addition to this, I am a Project Lead for PUBS Consulting and a Program Coordinator in the LSM Pipeline Program. Beyond the professional clubs, I enjoy playing basketball at Pottruck and producing music in my free time.
5) Do you have plans for after graduation (tentative or otherwise)?
At the moment, I’m hoping to go into industry for a few years after graduation (exploring finance or biotech), and then advance my interest in the life sciences via medical school. With the LSM education and our unique intersection of business and medicine, I hope to be a leader in healthcare and drive transformation and innovation in healthcare delivery and healthcare equity in the US and beyond.
